Mark your calendars for the official grand opening of the Simple Gifts Community Garden on Sat., May 18th, 10 AM-12 PM, at 3109 Tingen Rd., Apex, NC. This new garden not only produces an abundance of fresh, organic produce in a half-acre garden on YMCA of the Triangle land in Apex for local food banks, but is also an NCWF certified wildlife habitat and Butterfly Highway location. In addition to 48 thirty-foot rows of organic crops, there are two 200′ rows of a large variety of pollinator plants and herbs. SWC held a native plant sale there last fall, and a number of those plants also made it into these pollinator beds, in addition to others transplanted from the old garden or other members’ houses. SWC also installed two bluebird houses on the property, as well as an eight-gourd purple martin housing array.

SWC will be hosting stations at the event to educate visitors about pollinators, including tours of the pollinator plants, as well as wildlife at the garden (bluebirds, purple martins). Local dignitaries attending will include the Apex mayor and members of the town council and executives from YMCA of the Triangle.
Come join the fun and see a great partnership in action for sustainability!
