Pollinator Garden Day at Adams Elementary

Kids hands planting a plant

Five recesses, five grades, and an amazing day of energetic kids weeding and planting for pollinators, many for the first time ever! SWC and NCWF partnered with the Adams Elementary School PTA in Cary to assist the students in building out a new native pollinator garden at the school on Oct. 18th. This was the first of two days to do this project, and the next one is scheduled for Oct. 25th. The kids enjoyed learning new skills in the garden and took care to do their best job at it. These were primarily native plants, such as swamp sunflowers, New England Asters, Turk’s caps, columbine, penstemon, and others, plus a little fall accent along the cinder block border with pansies.

NCWF Conservation Coordinator Kara Solomon and SWC’s John Kinsella worked with the PTA to plan these kids workdays. Also helping with the effort today were Bill and Monty from SWC, as well as PTA garden leaders Brianna and Ashley. They will help the kids maintain the garden, as it grows and brings in the pollinators.
