SWC and Simple Gifts Community Garden joined forces again to hold the SWC Native Plant Sale together with the Open House at the garden Saturday morning. The community came out in force, with an estimated 150-200 people attending this joint event. The seventeen species of plants were very popular, with the majority sold within the first hour and every single plant sold before the 2 1/2-hour event ended. It was great to see the enthusiasm of so many people in the community for planting native!
In addition to the great hospitality and venue offered by the garden, we are grateful to so many SWC volunteers and contributors that made this event possible. SWC had eleven volunteers who prepared signage, transported and organized plants, brought and setup supplies and equipment, helped customers with plant selections, ran kids’ pollinator-related activities, and checked people out with their purchases.
We want to give a special shoutout to Amy Godwin, who donated 55 plants from her Neighborleigh business for this sale! In addition Dave Barber and Preston Montague really came through, when we encountered a supplier issue, which was quickly resolved.
We hope many of the people that came Saturday will explore and join us for other SWC activities going forward, as we promote wildlife and habitat conservation!
