Moth Night at Crowder Park Aug. 23rd

Did you know that there are estimated to be 160,000 different moth species, almost ten times as many as there are for butterflies? And most come out only at night, so you may not have seen most of them. Well, here is your chance! South Wake Conservationists are proud to present our popular Moth Night again, led by Bonnie Eamick! All ages will enjoy the amazing variety of shapes and sizes we will see in just one evening. It is like Bubba Gump said about chocolates: “You never know what you’re gonna get.”

We will set up a large sheet with a UV light to attract a variety of moths that will land on the sheet for everyone to observe and draw, and we can use the iNaturalist Seek app (Android or iOS) to try to identify some of them and submit photos as citizen scientists. Here is a short video introduction to this fun activity.
