We are bringing back an event that was popular several years ago! Join SWC for a bald eagle watch at the Jordan Lake Dam Tailrace Fishing Area (2060 Jordan Dam Rd, Moncure, NC) on February 21, 2026. Jordan Lake is home to a large number of permanent resident eagle pairs and in the winter the population grows to one of the largest on the East Coast with the arrival of migratory eagles. Although we cannot 100% guarantee a sighting, we are hoping our chances are just as good as last time! The wintering eagles are usually solo and immature eagles that are not yet sporting their white feathers.
We will meet at the parking lot at 8:00 a.m. Stay to the right when you come to the Y intersection on Jordan Dam Rd, then take a right turn when you come to the dead end at the dam gate and the parking lot will be down on left. We will walk along along the riverbank and the top of the dam looking for birds. Please wear appropriate footwear, dress for the weather, and bring water and binoculars if you have a pair. A spotting scope will also be set up to share. Hope to see you there!
