On August 30, 2024 seven South Wake Conservationists took on the formidable task of removing “a ton of weeds” from the Bass Lake Park pollinator garden. After an extended summer draught, the recent rains produced a bountiful quantity of weeds. The group was accompanied by Kara Solomon, the North Carolina Wildlife Federation’s recently-hired Conservation Coordinator. Kara jumped right in and was a very welcome addition! We look forward to partnering with her on many future projects! Many thanks to Monty, Beth, Bill, Courtney, Bob and Regan! Please enjoy the pictures!

Hopping toads gone wild. As the grasses were pulled out, these fellows jumped into undisturbed clumps of vegetation. Care was taken to insure that these guys remained unharmed and were left enough vegetation to hide. Kara provided additional plants that should fill in quickly. Unknown to us at the time, Monty had ordered a soaking thunder storm to insure that the new plantlets were provided a good drink. Locally over an inch and a half fell. Keep up the good work.

hi! My name is Jeannine Dorothy, I saw a picture here that I think is Beth Mucha Kinsella. I was good friends with her from toddler through high school. Lost touch, but I’m pretty sure today is her birthday. If you’re in touch with her and she’d like to get in contact with me, please tell her I’m still in MD and would love to talk to her!
