Build a Nature Trail!

Sign at West Lake Elementary School for nature trail

SWC has a great opportunity to re-imagine an aging nature trail at West Lake Elementary School, led by Courtney Rousseau in collaboration with NCWF and the PTA. This project is in the very first stage, but our first workday to get a jump on cleaning up the existing trail is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 27th, 1:30-3:30 PM. This trail was first built a number of years ago and needs a total refresh to be the engaging outdoor education site for kids it was once intended to be. Deteriorated timbers, signs, birdhouses, etc. will be replaced, of course, but many new and interactive concepts and new native plants can now be built into the nature trail. What a great way to connect kids with nature right at their school!

The first workday (Oct. 27th) will consist of selective weeding, pruning, landscape timber replacement, deteriorated birdhouse removal, and other general cleanup tasks. Please register below, and specific details on what to wear and bring will be sent by follow-up email. We hope you can join this effort!

  1. Monty, I have a prior commitment on Sunday Oct. 27 but I’m interested in this project. Please keep me in the loop.
