SWC joined fellow NCWF Triangle-area chapters at the NC State Fair on Monday (10/21) to partner with the NC Native Plant Society at their permanent booth at the top of the Flower Show area. Neuse River Hawks covered the first shift, Tri-County Wild and Durham Wildlife Stewards covered the second shift, and SWC covered the third shift. Visitors enjoyed playing “Pollinator Jeopardy,” as well as a match game between specific pollinators and their preferred plants. We also shared a display of our “Rogue’s Gallery” of invasive plants. The best part, of course, was the opportunity to engage in some great conversations about native plants and wildlife with the visitors.
Thanks to John for helping with the booth for SWC and to Kara (NCWF Conservation Coordinator), who was there for the entire day. And a special thanks goes to Jackie Trickel, representing the NC Native Plant Society in our area, who has invited us to share their booth at the fair for the past three years and also partners with us on Kids in Nature Day!

Great job, all of you. We were going to take our visiting son and his wife to the state fair until we saw the lines of traffic – and gave up. We went to the NC Art Museum instead.
