Let’s Do Some Rainy Day Gardening!

Volunteers weeding the pollinator garden

On November 20, 2024 the South Wake Conservationists, well aware of wet weather conditions, had a very productive gardening day for wildlife at Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh. The weather rotated from light drizzle to moderate rainfall, with some fortunate stretches of no rain! The group concentrated on removing invasive plants, including porcelain berry, liriope, Japanese honeysuckle, crape myrtle, an errant Braford pear, plus aggressive blackberry that were crowding out the pollinator plants. Hopefully the garden’s assortment of colorful pollinator plants will emerge this spring with all of their beauty and splendor! A hearty thanks to Beth, David, Monty, Ian, Lyle, and yours truly for braving the elements. Enjoy the photos below!
