On a sunny yet chilly Saturday, December 7, 2024 the South Wake Conservationists, accompanied by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation and an enthusiastic group of nature-loving volunteers, had a very impressive “workday!” The group descended upon Bass Lake Park and thoroughly weeded the pollinator garden, added some native plants and removed a very impressive amount of invasive trees, shrubs and ground-cover plants. The group zeroed in on Privet, Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus) and English Ivy, but also caught some emerging nandina and Bradford pears. They were fortified by some hot chocolate thanks to Monty and Naomi! Please enjoy the pictures!

That’s great, thanks for doing that!

Good pics of the “trifecta” at Bass Lake. Now, how to follow that act? It has become customary to schedule service projects for the weekend of the Martin Luther King holiday. Is there a conservation project we could tackle then?
