New Hill Hunter Education and Mentoring Program – Practical Deer Processing

Group photo of students

More than fifty individuals, mostly new to hunting, attended this year’s Practical Deer Processing training events delivered at SWC’s Harnett Area Deer Donation Site and a satellite site in Apex on Saturday Dec 7th, where they acquired comprehensive knowledge on handling deer from the initial stage to packaging and freezing. Delivered collaboratively between the New Hill Hunter Education and Mentoring Program and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission,  participants learn that processing deer personally allows for complete control over this free-range all natural meat, and that this can be achieved without incurring substantial expense. One couple expressed their gratitude, stating, “Jonabe and I want to thank you for having us yesterday. We both had a fantastic time and learned much more than we anticipated. The food was exceptional, and everyone was  incredibly friendly and helpful.”

New Hill Hunter Education and Mentoring Program’s 2025 Learn to Hunt program – open to adults new to hunting – will be accepting applications soon. Click here for more information.

    1. Feel free to bring your legally harvested deer by the SWC NCWF Deer Program site located at 4503 Ross Road Lillington, NC 27546. Call ahead and we can usually take samples while you wait. (919) 250-8441

Alternatively, WRC has placed freezers around the county for hunters to deposit their deer heads into. A complete listing of CWD sample drop off sites can be found on the WRC website ncwildlife.org
