City Nature Challenge on the Mims Trail

SWC joined the second of two BioBlitz events in Holly Springs, led by Rachel Woods, of Dragonfly Nature Programs, on Sun., April 27th. This was part of the NC City Nature Challenge for the Triangle Area being held throughout the Triangle (and the state) that weekend. Twelve budding naturalists were introduced to the use of the iNaturalist app, before heading down the Mims Trail in Holly Springs, which is a wooded area in a lush ravine, with a natural spring at the bottom.

Many thanks to Rachel for introducing folks to the iNaturalist app and the bioblitz process. Species counts are still being tallied, but it was a wonderful afternoon activity that everyone enjoyed.

Check out these carpenter ants found earlier that day in a tree in my backyard, too!
