April 23 was our third invasive assault assisting our conservation allies, The Audubon Society.
Our ultimate plan is to restore Carol H. Johnson Environmental Education Park. The weather was perfect and our crew experienced. The City of Fuquay-Varina generously aided us by providing a park employee who helped with debris removal from the site. We expanded our original beachhead and reached the parking lot and stream.
Privet is the most rampant invasive in the park, but we also removed Japanese Honeysuckle, Tree of Life and others. For me, the most exciting part of the project was uncovering the treasures that invasives conceal. A few species rescued are American Strawberry Bush, multiple fern varieties and Trumpet Vine. Keep your eye out for our next invasive removal on a Thursday in May.
