This was our fourth year in a row as an exhibitor at Mud Day at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center in Raleigh. This is always a fun event, and though our exhibit was far enough away from the mud slide to not get splashed, we did get some collateral mud from muddy visitors to our exhibit. A little mud feels good on a hot day!
We were excited to offer a new interactive display this year, custom-crafted by Debra Quinlan, which drew a lot of interest among both adults and kids. Titled “What Belongs Here,” it presented a number of flip-card questions about native vs invasive animals or plants. There was also a very informative, SWC-designed brochure about native plants in Wake County and their ideal placement provided as a handout.

We had a main display about Wildlife Habitat, which is our theme this year. For the kids, we had the popular habitat matching game, as well as animal track identification and frog sounds and lifecycle. I think we also signed a lot of people up for Kids in Nature Day (Oct. 10) in the process!

Many thanks to Jeff, as always, as well as Debra, Paul, Dave, and Cissy for braving the heat and making it all run smoothly!
