As a low-lying wetland, this site absorbs all the invasive seeds flowing from the Walnut Creek water shed, a significant area of Raleigh and Wake County. Normally, we would be restoring a high ground section with native cane, but at this time construction of an improvement to the park is preventing this work. This will help us to comply with our quarterly commitment to the center.
Please note that 9/6/26 was trash pick-up with Wake County Big Sweep, and next weekend (9/13) will be invasive removal, primarily stilt grass. This is a great time to remove stilt grass as well as most exotic plants, as they start to produce seeds. We will be working directly with the park, so please register on this post and be prepared to sign the City of Raleigh Waiver on site.
As with all invasive removals we recomend volunteers wear gloves, long sleeve shirts and pants, and hiking type foot wear. Please feel free to use any skin or insect repellant you require. The center will supply tools but you are welcome to use your own.
