It was a pleasant evening on the patio at Transfer Co in Raleigh, where SWC gathered around 35 local folks to see the spectacle of the chimney swifts roosting for the night in the short chimney immediately adjacent to the patio. It was the perfect viewing spot, and people grabbed a bite to eat and a beverage ahead of time, before settling in for the show. We shared some information about the biology and habits of these amazing migratory birds at 6:30, as the swifts started showing up by the hundreds, and they had all dropped into the chimney by 7:30. They will be here for another week or two before beginning their incredible journey all the way down to the Amazon basin in South America. We look forward to their return in the Spring!
