Join NCWF and the South Wake Conservationists chapter for a trash cleanup in and around Lake Raleigh on Saturday, 5/1/21, 9 am – 12 pm. Lake Raleigh is located on NC State’s Centennial Campus in Raleigh. Directions to the boat ramp, where we’ll meet, are to take Centennial Parkway to Achievement Dr. then turn right on Main Campus Dr. and after a short distance the driveway to the boat ramp will be on your left. Free parking will be available on Main Campus Dr.
The clean up will be by canoe or by walking the Greenway Trail and picking up trash along the trail and the lake shore. Canoes and life jackets will be available or you can bring you own. There are mud flats and coves at the far end of the lake from the boat ramp and volunteers with canoes will be led out to those areas with the most trash. Gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, and hand sanitizer will be provided. Volunteers should also bring their own mask and be prepared for social distancing during the activity. Closed toe shoes/boots are recommended. Waterproof shoes or shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy are suggested. Remember to bring hats, water bottle, sunscreen and insect repellent if needed.
This event is an opportunity for South Wake Conservationists to earn native trees to plant later through NCWF’s Trees-4-Trash Program (25 lbs. of trash earns another tree for planting later). Please register here. Hope to see you on April 24.
