We had a great turnout today at Bass Lake Park to complete the preparation work for the new Native Shade Plant Demonstration Garden under construction, including two new volunteers that joined us. A number of people stopped by and asked what we were building and took information about our chapter to hopefully join future events and activities with us. It is exciting to see the growing interest in our community!
Now that the invasive trees and plants have all been removed, roots cleaned up, soil raked and leveled, and zones for different plants marked, we are ready for the final step . . . planting! This will take place next weekend, 9 AM-12 Noon. In addition to our regular member volunteers, we will be joined in this effort by a Cub Scout Webelos den from Holly Springs Pack 66, plus a couple of local teens that have also signed up. Bass Lake Park has already ordered the permanent 2 ft. by 3 ft. educational sign we designed, plus a holder for handouts park visitors can take with them, providing all the plant profiles.
