Thanks to a generous donation offered this month by Micro Summit Processors, a USDA-inspected meat processor located in Micro, NC, SWC was able to support the mission of the Harnett Food Pantry, Harnett County Partnership for Children, and the Harnett Emergency Food and Shelter Program by coordinating receipt of more than 900 pounds of high-quality meat! This included fifty 10-pound boxes of chicken tenders and ten 40-pound boxes of pork and beef. SWC’s Harnett Area Deer Donation Site, located in Lillington, NC, responded to this opportunity, identified need and coordinated local receipt. This donation will provide enough meat to serve nearly 4,800 meals to Harnett families.
Micro Summit Processors also supports SWC by processing legally harvested deer for distribution to local food programs each fall. Last year, local hunters donated enough venison through this site to serve more than 20,000 meals to neighbors in need. The Harnett Area Deer Donation Site looks forward to continuing its mission of taking aim against hunger as it reopens its deer donation site again this fall.
