SWC at Apex EarthFest on Earth Day

South Wake Conservationists participated in the Town of Apex’s second annual EarthFest on Earth Day, April 22, 2023. With massive rain and wind in the area most of the day, the organizers moved everything indoors to the community center gym, which everyone appreciated! Our theme for public events this year is “biodiversity,” which is the “very stuff of life,” per E.O. Wilson. Specifically, we are helping educate the public on the existential importance of biodiversity and the five major threats that imperil it, including habitat loss, pollution, species exploitation, climate change, and invasive species. The Nature Q&A board, a staple at all our events, continues to be popular and fun, and the kids did a great job playing the Habitat Game, matching animals to habitats. Thanks to Jeff, Bob, Regan, Monika, and Katie for helping spread the conservation message in our community!
