Stop Destructive Inshore Shrimp Trawling in North Carolina’s Coastal Waters

Estuary with overlay message "Ban Inshore Shrimp Trawling"

Have you heard the news? For the first time, North Carolina canceled the recreational Southern flounder season due to concerns over the sustainability of the fishery.

What can we do that will have the most immediate impact to preserve the Southern flounder population in North Carolina waters? Stop inshore shrimp trawling. Spawning flounder get caught up as bycatch in the trawling process which harms the population and ecosystem.

Inshore shrimp trawling in NC results in hundreds of millions of fish bycatch annually – unintentionally catching and killing numerous species, including juvenile fish, crabs, and other marine life that are vital to the health of our coastal ecosystems.

Click the button below to message your representative and demand a ban on inshore trawling. By putting in your address, it will automatically address the call for action to your specific state senator and representative.

We need all North Carolinians, including those of us in Wake County, to speak up for sustainable fishing practices.
