Join NCWF South Wake Conservationists Chapter for a webinar about forest management strategies for American woodcocks. Speaker Sara Cerv is a Forest Conservation Director at the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society. The Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) unite conservationists to advance sustainable forest management to benefit ruffed grouse, American woodcock, and a diverse suite of forest wildlife.
As a flagship species, the woodcock supports more than 50 other wildlife species through shared habitat, including wild turkey, northern bobwhite quail, whip-poor-will, and the threatened Swainson’s warbler. This migratory bird depends on early successional forest conditions across the Atlantic Flyway, spanning northern breeding grounds, migration stopover sites, and southern wintering areas. American woodcock populations have declined by 1–2% annually over the past 25 years, largely due to habitat loss. Join us for a presentation about how intentional forest management can create and sustain the young forest habitats that woodcock need throughout their life cycle and migration, helping to reverse this trend.
If you are in the area, please come in person to the meeting at the beautiful conference facility at Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs. The presentation will be followed by time to enjoy refreshments, socialize, and participate in a raffle with nature-themed prizes. If you are not in the Raleigh area, we also enjoy having remote participants via our live webcast. Be sure to register to join us below!
