SWC exhibited again at the annual Wild About Nature festival at Sugg Farm in Holly Springs yesterday. It was a hot day, but we still had a nice turnout, and everyone seemed to have a good time . Out theme was Wildlife Habitat, which included an informational display about all the different types of habitat, how they are in danger or being degraded, and what can be done about it. The kids learned about beavers and their habitat in a diorama display by Bob and Regan that also included a beaver pelt kids could see and feel. They also loved playing our animal habitat game and tried their best to identify various animal track casts (there was an illustrated booklet to assist!). As a bonus, we also offered the last few native plants from our original plant sale last month, which Jeff managed in parallel to the other activities.
As always, holding these exhibits takes a lot of teamwork, from planning and preparation to setup to engaging the public to packing it all up at the end. Many thanks to Bob, Regan, Martha, Cathy, Jeff, Debra, Dave and Cissy! Our next event is the Pollinator Festival on June 6 at Lake Crabtree County Park, so watch for volunteer opportunities coming soon for that one!
