Our SWC volunteers are a determined group. Despite what felt like 100% humidity, our team of eleven spent the morning pulling weeds like nutsedge, black nightshade, crabgrass, stilt grass, and vinca, then spreading fresh mulch throughout the Bass Lake shade garden.
This summer’s extreme heat, drought, and a few very hungry deer have taken a toll on both new plantings and some of our established natives. Thanks to today’s hard work, the garden is refreshed and well‑prepared for the planting seasons ahead.
At our next Bass Lake pollinator garden workday on October 18, we’ll focus on adding native, shade‑loving shrubs that will provide valuable habitat and food resources for pollinators. We hope you’ll join us in October.
