After a few months and cleanouts, we have learned much about the trap and where it is located. It’s on a highly used trail that connects to the Raleigh Greenway. So, if it’s full, the park will hear about it. The problem is, it can go weeks empty, particularly during the drought, and then a sudden storm occurs and the trap is full. So the team would like to share how we operate, and explain why we don’t “post” the cleanouts.
At present there are four SWC volunteers that all live in a nearby neighborhood. About once every week, and after a heavy rain storm, one of us takes a hike on the trail and verifies if it’s clean or not. If full, the team is called and we put together a time to respond.
The operation only takes about four people to clean, separate, count and weigh the trash. The four of us enjoy the event but there might be others who would like to join in the fun! So, if you’re interested, please email me at Davidbarberaic@gmail.com and we will add you to the team!
