Despite the intense humidity and drought-hardened soil, volunteers tackled three major projects at Inwood Wildlife Gardens: building a hibernaculum, planting native species around “Brass Frog Pond,” and mulching the pollinator garden path. The ground was so tough that even the tractor’s bucket needed help from volunteers wielding pickaxes!
By day’s end, we had installed 125 native plants, refreshed the pollinator garden pathways with mulch, and completed South Wake Conservationists’ first-ever hibernaculum. Located beside the pond and Inwood’s incredibly busy pollinator garden, this new habitat will provide critical overwinter refuge for amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other wildlife.
Thank you to everyone who sweated, dug, planted, hauled, and persevered. The wildlife will be enjoying the benefits for years to come!
