Behold the creatures at night! Our Eco Kids “Moth Night” Saturday night, July 23rd, was great fun and opened everyone’s eyes to an amazing world of nature after dark. Bonnie Eamick introduced an enthusiastic group of twelve kids and fourteen adults to “mothing,” as well as discovery of other features at night, like illuminating fluorescent caterpillars with black-light flashlights and spotting spider eye reflections with a regular flashlight. A variety of moths visited the two sheets we hung and illuminated with black lights, as well as caddis flies, beetles, and other insects., which kids could examine with magnifying bug boxes. Of course, the toads stayed close by, looking for their next meal!
