SWC members and guests enjoyed a nice walk at Bass Lake in Holly Springs this morning. We successfully spotted a handful of winter waterfowl visitors: American Coots, Buffleheads, Cormorants, and Ruddy Ducks. Our guide, who is a frequent birder of this location, commented on the unusually high abundance of the American Coot species we saw foraging in the water. We also spotted several year-round residents: Bald Eagle, Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Red Tail Hawk, along with numerous songbird species. A special treat for the group was hearing a Barred Owl calling in the distance while we were along the southern end of the lake. Be sure to keep an eye out on the website for future SWC outings!
