An Enjoyable Walk in the Woods!

On a beautiful first day of spring (3/20/22), South Wake Conservationists conducted a very enjoyable walk on the Sal’s Branch Trail at Umstead State Park in Raleigh. Eleven nature enthusiasts enjoyed great weather and conversation. They also spotted a flock of Bufflehead ducks on Big Lake and checked on the status of a group of button bushes (looking good) they planted in December! The bushes were accompanied by groups of small minnows!

  2. John, could you also comment on the other riparian sections of the Pollinator Garden that stretches up the far embankment? It’s been there about two years and should be filling in nicely if the grasses haven’t been too competitive.

  3. The grasses are starting to fill in parts of that garden. Pollinator plants are coming up but something may have to be done about the grasses. Your cardboard may come in handy!
