SWC and Brice Law Meet the Earth Day Challenge!

Every year, EarthShare matches up corporations and non-profits in both the Raleigh and Charlotte areas to participate in a variety of workdays to make a positive impact on our natural environment. This year, South Wake Conservationists was matched up with seven enthusiastic volunteers from the environmental law practice of The Law Offices of F. Bryan Brice, Jr. Together with five members of the chapter, we tackled a project to create a variety of pollinator gardens at SWC’s newest Garden for Wildlife site, Yates Mill County Park.

This high-energy group planted 170 native perennials and 45 native shrubs in five different areas at Yates Mill County Park.  They also mulched one additional area SWC planted last month to round out the day.  Digging, planting and mulching was running concurrently in all five areas – dirt was flying, tools were clanging, and the result was beautiful!

It was a fun time, and new friendships were forged while working, conversing, and laughing throughout the afternoon. We look forward to seeing these dedicated conservationists at future SWC activities and meetings!

  2. This event truly brought together two forces, a legal one and an educational one. Together participants exchanged experiences and knowledge. Thanks to the help and preparation by Madison of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, various plants suitable to the growing conditions were purchased. The enthusiastic group set about augmenting the number of native plants in five distinct habitats all within the boundaries of Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh, NC. These consisted of Shade Garden, Partial Shade Garden, Swamp or Rain Garden, Xeric Garden, and Sun Garden. We eagerly wait for summer to reveal the splendor of our efforts.
